Helena charges a standard research rate of £20 per hour for all types of genealogical research. Under this rate, research parameters will be agreed with you, the research carried out and a report compiled. On completion, she will invoice you and either post or email the research report on receipt of full payment.
Research can be carried out throughout England and Wales from 1837 onwards (the start of civil registration). Before this date, Helena’s main area of expertise is north west England.
Travel costs to county archives within the primary research area of Lancashire, Westmorland and Cumberland are included in the research fee. These are located in Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal, Whitehaven and Carlisle.
Travel costs are charged for visits to county archives throughout the rest of the north and north west as follows:
Northallerton (North Riding): £10
Durham (County Durham): £15
Morley (West Riding): £15
Middlesbrough (North Riding): £20
Newcastle (Newcastle): £25
Ashington (Northumberland): £30
Chester (Cheshire): £30
Care will be taken to undertake as many hours research as is practicable at a particular location on a given day.
The costs of potential travel to any other archive or location in the north west will be discussed with you on an individual basis.
Travel costs to each location are charged per mile. The costs of photographs are dependent on your requirements, and these will be discussed and agreed in advance. Photographs will be burned onto a DVD and sent to you by mail.
If your research needs expand beyond the north west Helena is happy to continue research anywhere in England. Travel to the area and accommodation will be fully costed and a quote prepared for you. Travel whilst in the area will not be charged unless journeys over 50 miles are undertaken: these will be discussed with you in advance. On agreement, this quote will be paid in full in advance.
Research costs will follow the usual procedure whereby the number of hours will be agreed in advance, research carried out, a report compiled and an invoice sent. On payment of the invoice, the research report will be sent to you.

- Civil Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates from 1837 onwards: £9.25 each
