Ambleside Oral History Group

The Ambleside Oral History Group was formed in 1976 and currently has a sound archive of over 450 interviews from the local area, covering the period 1885 to the present day. Material from the archive includes topics as diverse as farming, domestic service, poetry, writing novels, woodworking, hiring fairs and bobbin mills.

I joined the group in 2018 and have interviewed many local people and others connected to the area, including poets, authors and wood workers. Being a member of the group allows me to concentrate on my great love of interviewing people and listening to them open up about their memories and interests. The people I interview are fascinating and it’s a privilege to be able to spend time with them.

I’m currently seeking new interviewees to help expand the Group’s collection further.
